William Turner of Sheffield is a supplier of high quality and elegant cutlery, in hallmarked sterling silver, silver plate and 18/10 stainless steel. The company was found in 1887, the year that Queen Victoria celebrated a Golden Jubilee, and can lay claim to the design of the classic Jesmond and Harley patterns which are still copied around the world to this day.

The Challenge

William Turner’s challenge was one that we have seen many times before; a renowned and establish company competing with today’s modern trends of purchasing i.e. online. They wanted to maximise the awareness of their brand and improve brand recall amongst their target audience. Increasing sales was also high on their agenda; an online presence where individuals and other companies could purchase their items was also required.

Solution

Our team started the ball rolling with some research into other cutlers. Once armed with the results of this research, a complete audit of the current William Turner brand took place. Our aim was to simplify the identity, and convey that they are a brand of quality, trust, history and heritage, whilst bearing in mind the use of the brand had to work across multiple channels and assets. Furthermore, a set of brand guidelines for the business was created to ensure each representative and any partners they work with understand how the brand should be used.

The uplifted brand formed the basis for the design of the ecommerce web platform. The online shop was built on a flexible and fully responsive ecommerce platform in Magento, giving the team at William Turner user friendly control over products, stock and shipping. We also integrated the online shop with SagePay to enable users to checkout on site, and Google Shopping to give further visibility of William Turner’s cutlery products in search engine results.
